Finding Cheap Flights

easycar_jetDon’t presume that scheduled airlines in the UK like British Airways are expensive. Scheduled carriers quite often not only offer a wider variety of flight times than low cost carriers and charter companies but also offer excellent cheap flight seats too.

Low cost airlines flying from UK Airports such as Ryanair, keep their prices down by offering the basic flight price online then allowing you to add items at an additional cost such as an online check in, a charge per item of baggage to go into the airplane’s hold, taxes and fees. The fares are always transparent though and clear as you book your cheap flight. Bmibaby is another example of a low cost airline.

To seek out the cheapest flights, try to be flexible with dates where possible.  Monday to Thursday travel is generally not as expensive as “weekend” travel (which does include Fridays), and very early morning flights or late night flights will be cheaper than around 8am and 6pm on commuter business flight routes.  Stansted is a well known airport for cheap flights, as is Luton and East Midlands, so also consider your departure location to keep prices down.  Watch out for new routes and flight “sales” where flight bargains can be had, and do try to book your flight in advance, especially if your travel coincides with school holidays!

School holidays! If you don’t have children at school, don’t fly when the schools are closed – especially when flying by charter flight!  Prices do rise during the holiday periods so by sticking to June or September for you summer holidays, you’ll find that the flight prices stay down.

Additional charges to watch out for when booking your cheap flights on either scheduled, low cost or charter carriers are for prebooked meals or if you intend to carry more than the airlines stipulated baggage allowance, a supplement for of additional weight.

If you want to check lots of companies at once whilst searching for your low priced flight, try comparison websites such as “cheapflights”, “travelsupermarket” or “teletext”. These sites are able to offer a host of airlines flying your chosen route on your selected dates, which of course can save a lot of time and expense.
